ABOUT JOSEPH AYAVORO
Joseph Ayavoro is a Manchester-based sculptor and public artist with more than two decades of experience designing, developing, and fabricating sculptures across Africa and the United Kingdom. His practice is rooted in the creation of distinctive works for the public realm, combining strong contemporary aesthetics with cultural depth and community engagement.
Working across a range of materials including metal, stone, resin, and wood, Joseph produces sculptures that are both visually compelling and structurally robust. His work often responds directly to the character of a place, making each project site-sensitive and meaningful to the communities in which it is located. Joseph’s artistic approach blends craftsmanship, storytelling, and innovation. Whether developing monumental public artworks or intimate sculptural pieces, his work reflects a deep respect for cultural identity, heritage, and the evolving language of contemporary sculpture.
Beyond his studio practice, Joseph is committed to community development through the arts. In 2008, he co-founded the Creative Hands Foundation in Manchester, a visual arts charity dedicated to supporting young people and adults through community-based art projects, workshops, and creative training initiatives. Through public commissions, collaborations, and community engagement, Joseph Ayavoro continues to contribute to the cultural landscape with sculptures that inspire dialogue, connection, and a lasting sense of place.
